Students and Pupils Unite For 12th Year At Great British Beach Clean

Students, staff and parents from Tollbar MAT Sixth Form College and Reynolds Primary Academy take part in the Great British Beach Clean at Cleethorpes Beach, in association with the Marine Conservation Society.

After a year out due to Covid restrictions, students and younger pupils from Tollbar MAT Sixth Form College and Reynolds Primary Academy took part in their 12th Great British Beach Clean.

The groups got together to pick up litter from Cleethorpes Beach in association with the Marine Conservation Society. The college has been taking part in the beach clean since 2008 and was joined later by pupils from Reynolds Academy. The school and college are both members of Tollbar Multi Academy Trust.

Even though the heavens opened, the groups worked together to pick up as much litter as they could find from the beach.

Simon Ritchie, Head of Tollbar MAT Sixth Form College, said: “We are here on Cleethorpes Beach with about 30 people from Reynolds and Tollbar, staff, students and parents, and we are here surveying and picking up litter and just trying to do our bit for the area.

“I think we have tried to push all year that there will be community projects and things we can do to support the community and we all believe as a Sixth Form College that we should be involved in those.”

Reynolds Academy Teacher Emily Mackin said: “We weren’t expecting the rain but we are really proud that the children have still turned out. We are having a great day collecting lots of litter. In school we talk about recycling and the importance of not littering, so this just reinforces that.”
