Seven Tollbar MAT Sixth Form College students have mingled with royalty at a reception at Buckingham Palace after completing their Duke of Edinburgh Gold Awards.

The Year 13 students - Jacob Campbell-Griffiths, Amelia Fairgrieve, Holly Mawer, Lily Drewett, Olivia Ramackers, Megan Grant and Olivia Wright - visited the Palace along with award winners from across the UK to meet Prince Edward and celebrity chef Benoir Blin. Benoit is Chef Patissier at Oxfordshire's Belmond Le Manoir aux Quat'Saisons, where he has worked closely with Raymond Blanc for over 20 years.

The students enjoyed an afternoon in the Palace gardens and received their certificates. Afterwards Olivia Wright said: "Doing Duke of Edinburgh was the best but hardest decision to make, but it is so rewarding when you accomplish it.

"My experiences across all three awards - Bronze, Silver and Gold - are the happiest memories, and I will cherish them knowing I was making a difference. There were times when I thought I couldn't do it, but it's all down to my family, friends and the DoE staff who kept me going.

"The visit to Buckingham Palace gardens was something I will never forget, standing with so many young people who went through the same experiences. To meet Prince Edward and our presenter Benoit Blin was a real honour too."

Christina Hook, Tollbar MAT Sixth Form College Head, said: "I am so proud of these Year 13 students for their incredible efforts in completing the Duke of Edinburgh Award Scheme. This scheme offers so many benefits to them, not least on their CVs for the future, both at university and in the workplace. It has also helped them to mature and to see the world with a wider view, and I am certain this will be a fantastic base for them as they move on to universities and apprenticeships later this year."
