Sixth Form College students added their support to this year's International Women's Day theme of a more gender-balanced world when they attended a 'Women In Sports Media' Conference held at Lincoln University.

The event aimed to make young women more aware of the opportunities available to them in Sports Media - an industry which remains male dominated. It was hosted by Lincoln University's School of English and Journalism ahead of International Women's Day, which takes place this Friday March 8 2019.

The Sixth Form College students took part in a variety of workshops, which introduced them to different elements of sports reporting. Sky Sports presenter Jessica Creighton was one of a number of women currently working in the Sports Industry who chatted to the students and led workshops. She led a presenting workshop, where students had the opportunity to read the sports news using an autocue.

Climber and Olympic-hopeful Molly Thompson-Smith talked about preparing for a press conference and allowed students to ask her questions. There were also workshops on Presenting News in Digital Media, Podcasts and Producing.

Tollbar MAT Sixth Form College students Lois George and Olivia Sutton, who are studying for their A Levels, both have their eyes on a career in Sports Journalism. Lois said: "This event was really inspiring. I knew I wanted to do something in Journalism, but this showed me the different opportunities available to me and how important it is to have more women in the industry."

Olivia said: "I gained great advice and help for going into the Sports Journalism industry in the future."
